. In this role you will be supporting the team’s supervisor through making operational decisions and participating with the team on assigned task.
While a CDL permit is required upon hire, you must have your Class A and endorsements / restrictions CDL within 5 months following your appointment.
CDL Training for Iowa DOT employees is provided!! Entry Level Driver Training is available if you do not already possess a Class A and endorsements / restrictions CDL for positions that require it. Those eligible will receive both hands-on Behind-the-Wheel Range and Road training, with web-based Theory training, to fulfill required state and federal regulations.
Location: Tipton Maintenance Garage - Within five (5) months, employees are required to reside within 45 minutes driving time, during normal conditions, from assigned work location.
Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours may vary and are subject to be on call 24 hours a day during emergency and / or weather conditions. Some overnight travel may be required.
When working in maintenance, you’ll keep the roads safe by:
- Leading day to day operations in the garage under a supervisor's guidance including directing operations, planning, coordinating and scheduling of work, act as a small crew leader to perform the full array of field highway maintenance activities.
- Performing routine roadway and right of way maintenance using dump trucks, front end loaders, tractors, motor graders, backhoes, mowers, and operate hand tools such as chain saws, pneumatic hammers, weed eaters and shovels.
- Performing routine maintenance and service of DOT equipment and vehicles
- Operating District 6 asphalt paver as needed
- Operating snow equipment
To excel in this position, you will need the ability to learn new software, access and utilize multiple applications, and efficiently produce high volumes of typing.
Requirements:
- Obtain pesticide/herbicide certifications or other certifications as needed
