In this role, you will oversee all aspects of environmental services, including housekeeping and laundry, ensuring that our community maintains the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. You will also be responsible for managing and motivating a team of dedicated staff members, ensuring that they are well-trained and equipped to provide exceptional service. The Director of ESS is responsible for the planning, coordinating and administering of quality and safe housekeeping and laundry operations for FVD. Also responsible for projecting a positive public image of FVD through professional conduct and communications, while maintaining confidentiality where appropriate.
Essential Job Duties:
Establish standards and procedures for housekeeping and laundry services to ensure safe operations and high quality service, while complying with all federal, state, and local codes, laws and regulations.
Ensure high quality services through personal quality assurance inspections, resident surveys immediately take action when something goes wrong and implement any necessary changes in policies and procedures; conduct employee coaching sessions and/or training programs.
Promote teamwork within ESS department and between departments through open communications.
Welcoming new hires and properly training those in your department, special departmental programs to recognize employees, and assisting when and where ever needed to ensure smooth operations and high quality service to residents and coworkers.
Communicate and coordinate ESS functions with those of other departments. Maintain open communications with residents regarding their concerns and expectations of ESS. Keep COO aware of any unsafe conditions, recommendations for facility improvements. Serve as a resource for departments with respect to all ESS issues.
Responsible for selection, training, coaching and evaluating all ESS staff members; ensure all ESS staff members know and follow facility and departmental policies and procedures.
Conduct regular ESS staff meetings to keep staff informed and refreshed on safety issues hospitality issues (ensuring all customer service oriented at all times with residents, co-workers, guests and vendors) and other training concerns.
Oversee employee scheduling and work assignments, including 6-month apartment cleanings. Make adjustments to assignments when absenteeism occurs. Occasionally must personally help with housekeeping, laundry and function set-ups.
Remain current on issues related to employee safety and health, keeping abreast of changes on OSHA requirements and informing the staff where appropriate; ensure staff attends mandatory in-services and emergency drills. Ensure all equipment and materials are maintained, repaired and are in proper working condition. Implement and ensure appropriate infection control policies and procedures.
Review and investigate all ESS employee incident reports. Report all recordable employee injuries (when must be seen by a doctor) to FVD’s MCO for worker’s compensation and Human Resources within 24 hours.
In conjunction with supervisors, maintain inventory controls and conduct monthly inventories. Order all necessary supplies, chemicals and equipment for ESS operations. Test and evaluate new products.
Keep COO aware of the condition of all large equipment and possible time frames and costs for replacements and repairs.
Participate in meetings, seminars and committees as needed and/or as designated by the COO. Attend mandatory in-service training and education programs.
May be required to report for duty for the duration of an emergency or natural disaster to assist in emergency procedures.
Know, uphold, and enforce Residents Rights and Code of Conduct policies. Encourage staff to report situations and appropriately address staff concerns. Maintain appropriate confidentiality of information.
Understand special needs of 65 and over age groups (e.g., possible loss of vision, memory, skin sensitivity, etc.); able to effectively communicate with and provide care for these age groups.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, business management, healthcare administration, or related field.
Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in environmental services or related field.
Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in a senior living community, is highly desirable.
Knowledge of OSHA standards and infection control procedures.
