Electrical Technician

Through its merger with Oil Search, Santos has acquired and assumed operatorship over a world-class portfolio of oil leases on the Alaskan North Slope, USA.
Our focus in Alaska is advancement of our Pikka Phase 1 project, which includes a single drill site, an oil processing facility, and other infrastructure to support production of 80,000 barrels of oil per day.
Pikka has been identified as being among the top quartile of oil and gas development projects for greenhouse gas emissions performance. Pikka is poised to play a key role in the energy transition and is aligned with our company goal of managing climate change risk. The project is on track to be ready for first oil in 2026
The Pikka Unit is one of the largest conventional oil discoveries made in the United States in the last 30 years, and the Pikka Phase 1 Project is the most significant development on Alaska's North Slope in more than 20 years.
The permitted Pikka development project includes two additional drill sites. The Alaska assets also include discoveries made from both the Mitquq and Stirrup exploration wells drilled in 2020. These opportunities combine to offer a clear path to long-term growth in Alaska.

Position Purpose

Electrical Technician position is responsible for carrying out planned or unplanned maintenance and repair activities for all the Pikka Facilities on a wide range of electrical equipment, power generation, and distribution systems.
Perform preventative maintenance as driven by the work management system and provide quality detail and feedback to work completed and discovered. Plan work in collaboration with the Integrated Asset Planner (IAP) and Electrical Lead. coordinate with and oversee contractors.
Have a strong working knowledge of electrical safe work practices. Function in a Journeyman role, capable of diagnosing equipment breakdowns and troubleshooting complex industrial power systems. Demonstrate the skills and knowledge to maintain and repair generators, turbines, switchgear, and UPS systems. This position is part of an effective team, responsible for safe start-up and energization, electrical availability, reliability, and safe operation.

Key Accountabilities

Perform maintenance and repairs on large synchronous generators,480V / 5KV / 15KV switchgear and motor control centers.
• Functional check-out and commissioning of new installations of electrical equipment in hazardous classified areas.• Respond to equipment breakdowns and participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations to determine root cause.• Perform preventative maintenance as driven by the work management system and provide quality detail and feedback to work completed and discovered.
  • Provide Santos oversite of contractor work, ensuring compliance with Santos and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with engineering to evaluate maintenance program performance and pursue predictive maintenance analytics.
  • Seek knowledge in and encourage the use of innovative technology to further optimize facilities' availability and reliability.
  • Utilizing safe work practices and ensuring all electrical safety requirements are met
  • Protective relay programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Medium Voltage switching and energization

Formal Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent .
  • State of Alaska Journeyman Electrical License
  • Valid state motor vehicle license to operate mobile equipment

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years electrical experience in the oil and gas industry is required.
  • Proficiency using electrical test and calibration equipment.
  • Experience with work management systems (SAP, Maximo, or similar) preferred
  • Experience with large synchronous generators,480V / 5KV / 15KV switchgear and motor control centers.
  • Willing and able to work a 12-hour day/night shift with a 2/2 weeks on/off rotational schedule on the North Slope of Alaska
  • Currently reside in, able to relocate to, or willing to commute to Anchorage, AK without company assistance
  • Willing and able to independently lift/carry and otherwise work with items weighing upwards of 50 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Willing and able to work in a variety of postures and positions throughout the work period to include supine, kneeling, squatting, bending and crawling, as well as working in tight confines
  • Willing and able to independently transition to and from the ground without the aid of a stationary object for support and sustain prolonged periods of standing and walking on hard surfaces as well as steel grating, snow, ice and mud
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to routinely climb stairs and ladders to extended heights
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to work at extremes of heat and cold, in high noise areas and with dust and fumes
  • Willing and able, to help other facility and field techs when they need help.
  • Able to successfully pass a fit for duty assessment.
