This position is open to Alaska Residents only.Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.The pay for this position will be dependent on the location of the selected applicant.What You Will Be Doing The Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) is seeking education professionals who are passionate about reading education and best-practice instruction to support our newly developed Reads Act Academic Support team. The successful applicants will be responsible for the implementation of district and school reading improvement activities and the provision of statewide technical assistance to teachers, schools, and districts. Under general direction of the Academic Support Administrator, this position serves as a subject matter specialist on reading to schools and districts statewide, provides assistance to districts on adopting reading curriculum, evaluates local reading program effectiveness, and makes recommendations for reading improvement. In addition, it provides direct reading support and on-site training to teachers, schools, and districts regarding effective reading improvement programs and strategies. Telework options may be available for eligible employees. The collaborative work environment offers opportunities to work closely and cross-train with various staff members within the division and the department. The main offices are located in Anchorage ad the Atwood Building and in Juneau at the State Officer Building.Who We Are Looking For Our ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and experience: Experience supporting school improvement programs. Skill in interpreting, explaining, and applying federal education regulations, rules, policies, and procedures. Experience with project planning and managing education programs.Experience evaluating program efficacy and assessing student and/or program success. Skill in presenting information to large audiences from diverse backgrounds.Special Note: As a condition of employment, this position requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain an Alaska Initial, Professional, or Master Teacher Certification with endorsement in Reading, Reading Specialist, or Remedial Reading OR Type B Administrator Certificate with transcripts that support completion of a State-Approved Program in reading instruction or 18 semester hours in reading instruction.Driver's license desired, but not required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in education, one year of which was as a staff advisor/specialist, administrator, supervisor or consultant in planning, developing and maintaining standards and evaluating educational and vocational curricula or educational programs in a specialized field.Substitution: Appropriate graduate study may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the non-specialized experience to a maximum of two years.Special Note: Due to the duties assigned to a majority of these positions, applicants may be required to possess an Alaska Teacher Certificate at the time of employment and be required to maintain certification as a condition of employment. Specific endorsements may also be required. Documentation is included in the file of affected positions.Individual positions in this class may require expertise in a particular educational specialty.
