South Dakota State University (SDSU) is looking for a self-motivated and dedicated early childhood care professional to join our team as a Quality Recognition Information System (QRIS) Coach serving early childhood and school age programs. This position supports the Child and Family Resource Network which was established in 1990 as an outreach office at SDSU to provide information and resources for users and providers of childcare and their families. Currently, the Child and Family Resource Network is a state and locally supported Early Childhood Enrichment (ECE) program which provides training, education and resources to adults who are involved in the day-to-day care of children and youth in northeast South Dakota. Experience working in the childcare industry is preferred. This position will be in an outreach office in: Pierre, South Dakota supporting western South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
Job Responsibilities: Responsible for providing support to early childhood and school age educators to the quality of care in childcare and school age settings. This includes providing consultation, observations, coaching towards quality improvement goals, building relationships, and providing resources to care educators. The position will work on a collaborative team of professionals dedicated to registered and licensed childcare educators who are working to achieve and maintain levels of quality.
Knowledge of:
  • Early Childhood Education, South Dakota childcare and school age industry.
  • Coaching and mentoring techniques.
  • Data entry computer knowledge.

Preferred Knowledge of:
  • South Dakota Early Childhood Enrichment system.
  • Early childhood and school-age quality observation tools: Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale, Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale, Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale, and the School Age Care Environment Rating Scale.
Skills & Ability to :
  • Establish rapport, maintains reflective and trusting relationships with community partners. Listen attentively to others and clearly convey information and ideas.
  • Present information in both one-on-one consultations either onsite or virtual and in group settings with childcare leadership teams.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and writing and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Read, analyze, interpret, organize, plan, and prioritize work to meet competing deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate records with attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, motivated, flexible and professional.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings, weekends, or overnight travel.
Preferred Skill and Ability to:
  • Demonstrate observation, assessment, and documentation skills to support the Environment Rating Scale tools and other supports.
  • Demonstrated ability to form and maintain collaborations among community partners and stakeholders.
  • Recruit and support childcare programs to participate in the Quality Recognition and Information System as established by the Department of Social Services.
Required License: Valid Driver’s License.
Comments: This position is classified as a Child Care Licensing Specialist. SDSU is a tobacco free environment.
