Domestic Relations Hearing Officer (U) #10111171-23400, Full-Time, At-Will, in Las Vegas, NM
The Fourth Judicial District Court is recruiting for a full-time, at-will, Domestic Relations Hearing Officer position #10111171-23400 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This position is under the supervision of the presiding Chief District Judge. The successful candidate will serve as a domestic relations hearing officer pursuant to Rule 1-053.2 NMRA, for matters pending in the Fourth Judicial District Court. The domestic relations hearing officer shall provide services in domestic relations proceedings necessary to review petitions for indigency; conduct hearings on all petitions and motions, both before and after entry of the decree; in a child support enforcement division case, carry out the statutory duties of a child support hearing officer; carry out the statutory duties of a domestic violence special commissioner and utilize the procedures as set forth in Rule 1-053.1 NMRA; assist the court in carrying out the purposes of the Domestic Relations Mediation Act, Sections 40-12-1 to -6 NMSA 1978; and prepare recommendations for review and final approval by the district court. The domestic relations hearing officer shall supervise administrative staff assisting the officer in performance of his or her duties. The domestic relations hearing officer shall perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, attending trials and hearings, and meeting with court administration and staff on legal or court matters; analyzing briefs, records, and legal authorities cited; creating proposed orders addressing petitions for extraordinary writs and motions in civil and criminal matters; evaluating court processes and formulating, recommending and implementing policies and procedures to ensure uniform compliance with statutory and constitutional provisions, case law and Supreme Court Rules; assisting management on personnel issues and ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws, rules, regulations, court, and AOC policies, and procedures; assisting with requests for proposals and invitations to bid; researching proposed legislation, providing testimony and participating in developing strategies for passage of legislation; overseeing and assessing the appropriateness of mediation or a dispute resolution process for a case and conducts mediation or a dispute resolution process subject to the applicable standards of confidentiality; facilitating settlements until an agreement is reached or until settlement does not appear to be possible; and serving on statewide or local committees. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The following functions are representative of the work environment and physical demands an employee may expect to encounter in performing tasks assigned to this job. Work is performed in an office or court setting. The employee is expected to be punctual and to adhere to assigned work schedule. Work is performed in an often fast-paced and stressful work environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy. The employee may be exposed to hostile or violent situations that may arise when dealing with individuals involved or associated with court cases, disturbing or hazardous court exhibits and contagious health conditions. The employee must regularly interact positively with co-workers, supervisors, managers, judges and the public; work under severe time constraints and meet multiple demands from several people. The work requires prolonged use of computers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform repetitious hand, arm and finger motions as well as use manual/finger dexterity, sit for long periods of time, stand and walk often; kneel and stop; and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move, push, pull or carry up to 40 pounds. Overtime may be required. Travel may be required. A valid driver’s license may be required. The employee may be exposed to fluctuating outdoor and building temperatures.
