Greenville County seeks a Criminalist to perform a variety of duties related to the analysis of many types of evidence recovered at crime scenes including, but not limited to, drug analysis. This position is responsible for providing opinions and evaluations of evidence in an investigative capacity, preparing documentation reflecting the analysis and conclusions of the examiner; preparation of evidence to be used at trial; provide explanation of analysis procedures and conclusions in court as an expert witness; performs scientific and legally accepted examinations of plant substances and materials to determine if it is a controlled substance; and, researches and evaluates new procedures and analytical methods for implementation in the Crime Lab. The successfully candidate will have good knowledge of the specialized instrumentation, equipment and tools used in the collection and analysis of evidence; and knowledge of the demands and restraints that are imposed by the judicial system on the procedures and techniques utilized in forensic analysis. This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science or advanced degree from an accredited university with a major in chemistry or in a natural science with a minimum of 30 hours of chemistry. Applicant will be required to obtain a law enforcement certification, other certificates and licenses as determined by the Assistant County Administrator for the Department of Public Safety. Must possess a valid driver's license. Clear FBI/SLED background, good credit report and polygraph required.
