Certification: Current certified officers are preferred; certification is required within the first year of employment. If not currently employed as a law enforcement officer, candidate needs to have been an active law enforcement officer within the last 5 years.
Education: Associates Degree or 60+ credit hours toward a degree program strongly preferred.
Experience: Minimum of six months as a certified law enforcement officer; one year preferred.
Additional Requirements: Valid driver's license and insurable driving record, U.S. citizenship, and at least 21 years of age. Must pass a polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, background check, drug screen, and essential functions test. No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions. Must complete Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training within 12 months of employment and maintain current certification through employment.
