Job Summary:
The Compliance Manager performs a key risk management role to help ensure Bank initiatives and lines of business processes comply with applicable Federal and State banking laws and regulations. While working within the Bank’s Compliance Risk Management System framework, the Compliance Manager provides guidance to management and lines of business.
Responsibilities:
- Serves in an advisory role by researching federal and state banking laws and regulations, reviewing the Bank’s policies and procedures, ensuring Bank compliance with laws and regulations, maintaining current expertise for the requirements of various consumer protection and disclosure laws and regulations that apply to the Bank, and serving as a regulatory resource for officers and employees.
- Provides subject matter expertise by responding to inquiries from the lines of business regarding the proper application of compliance laws, regulations, and related requirements.
- Participates in projects across the Bank and provides compliance support to assist management with new products, delivery channels, system upgrades, or operational changes.
- Stays abreast of evolving compliance initiatives/requirements, best practices, and trends, including preventive tools and techniques.
- Assists Internal Audit and regulatory examiners by collecting and preparing documents requested for audits and exams and supports others across the Bank on matters relating to the Compliance Program, audits, and exams.
- Effectively manages, develops, and coaches assigned team members. Drives engagement, advances a culture of teamwork and accountability, while motivating team members to higher levels of performance.
- Builds collaborative working relationships to understand core business activities and processes, as well as key risks, products, and transactions that pertain to the Bank’s compliance framework and risk assessment activities. Strives to become a trusted advisor of management in supporting the Bank’s business objectives.
- Conducts/assists with relevant training for Bank personnel on compliance responsibilities.
- Performs additional duties as requested, needed, or assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in the field of bank compliance or bank compliance audit or examination.
- Experience directly working with internal and external auditors, bank regulators, and bank management.
- Thorough knowledge of banking laws and regulations, including Flood Disaster Protection Act, Truth-in-Lending Act, and Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.
- Must stay current with changes in laws and regulations.
- Extensive ability to read, analyze and interpret government regulations, trade journals, and legal documents.
- Extensive knowledge of bank operations, policies and procedures
- Strong leadership skills, including experience in managing, developing, coaching, and motivating team members, while promoting teamwork and a spirit of continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to build business partnerships and collaborative working relationships with management, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Effective verbal communication and business writing abilities, with the capability to effectively present information to varied audiences, including Board members, executives, employees at all levels, vendors, other stakeholders, and regulators.
- Effective time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously as well as the ability to plan, organize, and ensure the completion of work assignments with appropriate attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
