Community Engagement Specialist II


Job Summary
**Hybrid Work Environment - Must reside on Oahu**
Pay Range: $59,000 - $116,000
Note: Individuals typically begin between the minimum to middle of the pay range
This position is responsible for engaging and educating HMSA employees, current and potential members through community relations, activities, events, initiatives, and projects on topics including advocacy, health equity, health, and well-being via multiple platforms. This position plays a key role in leading and supporting department and corporate initiatives. This role serves as an ambassador in the community by working to expand HMSA's visibility and reach in the community by researching, coordinating, developing, and executing projects and events large and small to increase the community's awareness and engagement of HMSA's mission to improve the health and well-being of all Hawaii residents
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Community Events and Engagement
    • Focus on statewide support and planning of HMSA community outreach and engagement efforts.
    • Coordinate HMSA's support and sponsorship of community health campaigns, events, programs, and projects, including project write-ups, identifying tasks, project needs and recommendations, and cost expectations.
    • Identify and execute creative events and opportunities to expand our interactions and build upon our relationships in the community.
    • Promotes HMSA products and services.
    • Represent HMSA at various community events.
    • Coordinate volunteers that support these events.
    • Manage and execute both small- and large-scale projects and events.
    • Leads larger key initiatives.
    • May include strategic planning related to larger community initiatives, events, and/or internal projects and events.
    • Identify and define opportunities for HMSA involvement, advocate on HMSA's behalf by assuming leadership roles, and contribute to organizational efforts through active participation and support.
    • Participate in community coalitions or committees.
    • Manage HMSA's Circle of Caring program.
    • Represent HMSA at public speaking engagements, including interviews with television, radio and print media, presentations to neighborhood board and community meetings, and other public settings as needed.
  • Project and Program Management
    • Leads projects including, but not limited to, the HMSA Kaimana Awards and Scholarship Program, large-scale events like county fairs and more. Lead and/or support corporate work groups for projects such as the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) initiative, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) initiatives and other departmental or corporate work teams. Lead aspects of large corporate events including, but not limited to, HMSA-hosted conferences. For projects:
      • Create and execute communications plans and other materials to increase awareness and visibility of HMSA's community involvement, including developing copy, completing project work requests, reviewing draws, and disseminating materials both internally and externally.
      • Develop sustained and authentic relationships with external partners and community stakeholders involved in relevant projects and activities.
      • Support overall project, department, and corporate strategy to ensure business requirements are met. Manage project milestones, timelines, deliverables, scope, cost, and potential risks. Facilitate resolution of project-related issues. Community business needs into appropriate and effective solutions.
      • Prepare and present project updates to department leadership team and/or project leadership team.
      • Develop and maintain working relationships with projects stakeholders as necessary.
      • Complete final reports on all events and activities, including event summaries, final costs, participation, and evaluation and other outputs and outcomes.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Public speaking skills
  • Project coordination skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and good time management skills
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Including but not limited to Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be at least 23 years of age to rent a car from our contracted car rental company when traveling to neighbor islands for company events.
  • Requires safely operating an insured automobile for travel to off-site locations to conduct and accomplish business related activities.
  • Must have valid driver's license, access to an automobile with current license, registration, and no-fault insurance.
