The Collections Specialist serves as a member of the central collection services area in the Office of the University Bursar. The Collections Specialist provides fiscal, operational, consultative, and administrative support to students, parents, external customers, and departments. Serves as subject matter expert within the university in the areas of compliance and collection of past due student receivables, student loans and departmental accounts receivable. Requires expert understanding of multiple university systems, system integrations, university policies, and the operational procedures of student service areas and departments to resolve complex account issues.
Requires deep understanding of Student registration and enrollment process, including financial aid, residency, records, and registration, and how these interact and impact student billing. Makes outbound calls and sends emails to debtors, references, places of employment, and third parties. Works collaboratively and develops working relationships with students, university staff, and outside entities. functions with a high degree of autonomy; performs special duties as assigned; attends trainings, staff, department and project meeting; handles sensitive and confidential information; may work evenings and weekends.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two (2) years of experience in collections and/or financial counseling; strong knowledge and understanding of first party collections; must possess strong negotiation skills; ability to work with a diverse population of students and staff; exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills; detail oriented; must possess strong organization, analytical and time management skills; Able to manage multiple priorities and tasks; must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently, as well as, collaboratively to solve problems. Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications with moderate to advanced excel skills.
Desired Qualifications: Peoplesoft Student Financials and Workday experience. Knowledge and general understanding of university policies and procedures as it relates to delivery of services to students. Collection experience in a higher education environment.

This is a hybrid work position with a minimum of one-day per week on site.
