Position Description
The Code Enforcement Inspector is responsible for the enforcement of the adopted Property Maintenance Code, and other related ordinance of the City of Junction City. This position is require to investigate complaints, inspect residential and commercial properties, apply appropriate enforcement procedures, and maintain detailed reports of their actions.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Responds to complaints in regards to code violations.
Performs follow-up inspections to ensure corrections are made.
Works with owners, property managers, tenants and other agencies on violations observed on a property.
Prepares and maintains case files.
Inspects the exterior of properties and structures for code violations and dangerous and unsafe structures.
Administers the adopted Property Maintenance Code and other related ordinances.
Works with the City of Junction City Prosecutor to adjudicate violations.
Communicates information effectively, accurately, and timely with internal and external customers.
Order abatements on properties as necessary
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Requirements
Required Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Requirements
Certification with the International Code Council (ICC) as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector is preferred, but not required.
Ability to learn the city ordinances and code requirements.
Ability to learn state and federal regulations pertaining to code enforcement.
Knowledge of operating a personal computer.
Ability to initiate and execute assignments with minimal supervision.
Utilizing a variety of business software, such as Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
Required Certifications and Licenses
Valid motor vehicle license issued by the State of Kansas is required.
