Summary

Collaborate with Chief Appraiser (if applicable) and other appraisers in appraising all property in the County and seeing that it is recorded in the Assessor’s Office. Be able to defend the appraisals in hearings and court proceedings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED certificate required. Certifications by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) and/or appraiser certification by the State of New Mexico. College degree in related field preferred but not required.

Must be at least 18 years old.

Some experience in assessment work or related field preferred with at least one year of office experience.

Some Appraisal experience preferred and the ability to draw to scale and to read blueprints.

Knowledge of laws relating to ownership, appraisal methods and techniques, the use of legal descriptions, maps and the operation of various office equipment preferred.

Must have successfully passed and obtained Appraisal I Certification through the State of NM in conjunction with IAAO within two (2) years of date of hire. This is mandatory and is a condition for continued employment with Curry County.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with elected officials, county staff and the general public.

Strong organizational and computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Google Mail and Excel. Triadic, Marshall & Swift and Apex software experience desirable.

Ability to understand and communicate in English oral and written, along with strong organization skills. Bilingual preferred.

Ability to interact professionally with public, property owners, supervisor, subordinates and other co-workers.

Ability to work independently of daily supervision and to exercise discretionary judgment and thinking.

Valid NM Driver’s License.

Ability to perform all essential duties as listed on the job description.

Ability to perform the essential duties in the working conditions described in the job description.

Ability to work with the equipment, tools and materials listed in the job description.

Must comply with safety guidelines and policies of the County.
