Youth Engagement Officer

OVERVIEW
The Youth Engagement Officer is key to ensuring that all The Playhouse’s youth activity at The Playhouse champions inclusion, equity and creative innovation, with BRIDGE and the Open Arts Pathway funded by BBC Children in Need. The role is responsible for coordinating youth programmes of varying scale and complexity o/ site and in our historic building. The Playhouse welcomes talented and collaborative individuals who are ambitious and eager to contribute to a dynamic, multi-disciplined team. The successful candidate will be passionate about nurturing diverse young people’s creativity and increasing performance arts experiences as well as have excellent project management, organisational and communication skills. The successful candidate will be experienced and up to speed in best practice in developing young people through informal and formal educational attainment. They will be highly organised, understanding the value of systems to support delivery and best practice. They will be able to motivate and bring diverse people together to work as a team as well as communicate e/ectively across The Playhouse and with partners. Competence and familiarity with Child Protection, Health & Safety, GDPR and Safeguarding procedures and legislation is important. The Youth Engagement O/icer reports to the Producer and is a key member of the Producing Team led by the Creative Director at The Playhouse. As a role contributing across the breadth of outputs: performing arts, access and inclusion and working with young people and partners from a diverse range of circumstances we are open to welcoming a candidate with the relevant key skills, ability and desire to learn the full scope of the position as necessary
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Minimum Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience and track record of developing and coordinating artsbased learning and participation activities in any of the following areas: schools, universities, technical colleges, arts and/ or community settings.
  • A third Level qualification in a relevant or related discipline.
  • Experience recruiting artists, creative facilitators, partners and participants.
  • Experience of administrating courses and activities including registration, induction, assessment, finance and evaluation.
  • Experience of highly effective relationship management within an arts, educational or related field.
  • Experience and understanding of best practice in children and vulnerable adult safeguarding.
  • Managing budgets.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent and confident on MS office systems.
  • Collaborative and excellent team player.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Learner focused with high level of emotional intelligence and empathy.
  • Attentive listener.
  • Confident with a variety of stakeholders regardless of seniority.
  • Able to work independently and manage a varied and diverse project portfolio.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of The Playhouse.
  • A highly organised individual with a solution focused approach.
  • Experience in implementing best practice in health and safety and preparing robust risk assessments.
  • A commitment to championing equity, diversity and inclusion at every level and the proven ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Other Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • A love of theatre/the arts and an understanding of their impact on society and the lives of individuals.
  • Well-developed coaching and relationship building skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Well-developed evaluation and monitoring experience.
  • A knowledge and understanding of diverse cultures.
