What do the people we support have to say?
In this service we support two people.
Person 1:
I am 19 years old, and I have a learning disability along with ADHD and ASD. Due to past trauma, I do sometimes get upset and find it difficult to regulate my emotions. I've lived here since 2022 and this is my first time living independently in an adult setting. I have a close relationship with my Mum and like to call her to keep her updated when things are going well or not so well. I am looking for someone that can help build my trust and that I can go to when things are overwhelming me. If you enjoy a good laugh and a joke, we should get along well. I do enjoy cooking, and I often make things that aren't the healthiest, so someone that can cook would be great and I would love someone that is willing to teach and assist when I'm trying to cook. Living alone doesn't come without it's struggles, and I am looking for someone to help me become more independent and self-sufficient. I want to be able to manage my money and someone that will talk to me when I am tempted to make a large or impulsive purchase.
Person 2:
I live in Brecon, and I am 67 years young! I have a learning disability and emotional regulation difficulties. I am in good physical health overall and I do suffer with UTI's at times, and I often don't tell staff if I am in pain or discomfort. I struggle to communicate when I am having a tough time, and I rely on the people that support me to notice patterns or behaviours and prompt me to act. Living in Brecon is lovely, and I like to walk into town. I also volunteer and have a work placement with a candle workshop in the area. I love my placement and even if I have had a poor night's sleep, I still can't wait to go to the workshop! I am a twin and my sister lives close to me. We don't spend that much time together, but it's comforting to know she is just down the road, so I do pop to see her when I feel up to it. I need someone understanding and patient, as I struggle with my mood and need the people supporting me to encourage and inspire.
