JOB PURPOSE
BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The Safety, Health and Environment Real Estate Manager is responsible for the management of Safety, Health and Environment in Granada Enterprises Limited implementing effective processes for reducing to a minimum the risk of injury, ill health, property damage and impact on the natural environment. To performance manage the business in order to achieve agreed objectives. To provide guidance to the business in all aspects of SHE in order to gain continuous improvement. To define and implement an integrated SHE strategy for the business ensuring the delivery of statutory requirements. To ensure the provision of education and training to all levels of the business in order to promote a proactive safety culture. To provide guidance and support to the business an all aspects of SHE legislation and ensure systems are implemented in order to achieve compliance
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop, maintain and deploy elements of the management system that support any real estate activities (including objectives, processes and assurance) that meet the requirements of BAE Systems Operational Framework and International SHE Standards (such as ISO45001 and ISO14001) and support the achievement of organisational goals.
- Provide competent and comprehensive SHE governance, advice and support to Line Leaders, enabling them to effectively manage SHE within their area(s) of responsibility.
- Provide robust, impartial and independent SHE advice for determining compliance with all relevant legal, BAE Systems Operational Framework and SHE Management System requirements.
- Will Manage contractor from SHE point of view including the monitoring of their performance (includes SHE regular meetings and KPIs tracking)
- Will take a senior and coordinating role in the investigation of major incidents and accidents and will assist where required in accident, incident and significant near miss investigations.
- Will audit the SHE arrangements and their application across the business.
- Monitoring of SHE performance in GEL facilities and the implementation of the Group and Business unit SHE Policy, Standards and Procedures.
- Provide competent advice and assistance to all staff, enabling them to discharge their responsibilities under the SHE Policy.
- Will manage the SHE Advisors and SHE Coordinators within their area of responsibility in implementing the SHE policy requirements at the operational locations.
- Will provide Business Unit guidance and support on the requirements of the SHE Policy, Framework and Standards.
- Will provide competent advice and assistance across the business areas and sectors on compliance with the Group and Business Unit SHE Policy, Manual/Framework and Standards.
- Assist risk assessors and become part of the Risk Assessment Team where required.
- Provide competent advice with regard to the safety aspects of the host country legislation, approved codes of practice and standards, and information from interested parties and professional bodies which may have an impact on operations.
- Will carry out “Contractor Assessments” of Service Contractors in accordance with the process defined within the Standard.
- Where required, or in the absence of a capable SHE Advisor/Coordinator, deliver mandated training as detailed within the “SHE Training” document such as SHE Induction for new arrivals and transferees (all nationalities), Fire Awareness and Fire Warden Training etc.
- Will assume the duties of a SHE Advisor where this position is not otherwise filled, but in addition will oversee and drive all SHE related activities for their area of responsibility.
- Will provide guidance and cooperation on the requirements of the SHE assurance activities
- Will monitor SHE performance and the implementation of SHE Policy and Procedures.
- Will report where required, on investigation of lost time accidents, dangerous occurrences, fires, pollution and environmental incidents.
- Will work in harmonic approach with other SHE professional within the BU

Knowledge:
Whilst a management role, the job holder is required to hold a comprehensive technical understanding of safety, health and environmental management standards and practice. The role holder will be an experienced SHE professional with a strong understanding of SHE requirements, internal and external best practice and able to bring their experience to articulate these in order to influence those in key roles in the organisation.
The role demands a high degree of stakeholder management. The role, therefore, requires a good understanding of the operating environment (including Lines of Business, Programmes, Functions, Site(s) and customers), and a current view of their deliverables and strategic aims, the challenges that they face, and the developments which they are planning and enacting.
The role requires an in depth understanding of how to influence others in order to operationalise, integrate and deliver SHE processes, projects and change in a business, through having a working knowledge of that area of the business or site(s), a good understanding of the business strategic goals and relevant BAE Systems processes and procedures.
The role requires a broad range of experience and an appreciation of deploying SHE management systems across multi-cultural / international operations.
Skills:
The role requires a strong ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders across all levels of the business or site(s) and externally. Stakeholders include (not limited to) Line of Business Management Committees, Site/Functional Directors, Regulators, Professional Bodies, Suppliers and Customers. The job holder should be able to demonstrate integrity, credibility and maturity to gain the confidence and respect of others.
Due to the nature of the work environment, the job holder is required to have the ability to solve problems and make decisions in a dynamic way. The role requires analytical thought to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations, demonstration of sound commercial awareness during decision making and the ability to apply skills and knowledge to a range of problems and issues, drawing upon previous experience to resolve problems for scenarios that may not be covered by standard procedures.
The role also requires effective communication skills able to negotiate internally and externally across a range of levels and with high-level sensitivity to multiple audiences.
The job holder must also have experience of managing people, in order to effectively lead a team of diverse talent and experience of managing a diverse range of SHE projects within a changing environment, delivering within budget and to agreed timescales.
Qualifications:
The role holder should hold more than one of the following QCF/NQF Level 3/5 (or higher) SHE qualifications:
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (L3)
- NEBOSH General/International Certificate
- NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (L6)
- Level 5 NVQ in Occupational Safety and Health Practice
- Level 6 NCRQ Diploma in Applied Health and Safety
- Environmental Management Certificate or Equivalent
- Safety, Health and/or Environmental Honours Degree (Bachelors or Higher)
- Equivalent qualification in Safety, Health and/or Environmental subject.
Typically holds a extensive post-qualification experience in applying SHE knowledge and processes in work-related situations.
Chartered membership of an appropriate professional safety, health and/or environmental institution is desirable.
The role holder must be able to demonstrate they have the appropriate qualifications and experience and are eligible to register with the MHRSD as either an Occupational Health & Safety Professional or Practitioner as per the requirements of Ministerial Decision 76509
