Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced and qualified mental health clinician to play a key role in the personal and academic development of tertiary students. This role is located within AUT's student counselling and mental health team which operates under Te Whānau o te Ara Whāriki - Student Services and Administration. The AUT counselling and mental health team carry out assessments and provide solution-focused therapeutic interventions. Our team works closely with other support services to provide holistic and wrap-around support for students with additional needs. This role will also work closely with the Office of Pacific Advancement (OPA) to provide cultural leadership around the well-being and mental health needs of Pacific students, acting as a key advisor to the Pacific wellbeing and success team's pastoral care service
He kōrero mōu | About you
We are looking for an experienced mental health professional with a genuine service-leadership mindset who may come from a youth, educational, statutory, or community setting and has a proven ability to provide professional therapy. AUT is keen to employ people who may contribute to the diversity of the university and are passionate about the well-being of tertiary learners.
As an experienced mental health professional with proven success in a therapeutic role, you will also bring:
  • A demonstrated commitment in your practice to Te Reo Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Tikanga Māori.
  • Existing extensive relationships within Pacific communities, and knowledge of Pacific values and ways of knowing and being. The ability to operate effectively and respectfully in Pacific cultural contexts is critical.
  • Experience providing Pacific cultural consultation in a mental health context.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant health profession such as social work, counselling, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, or similar.
  • Current annual practicing certificate.
  • Minimum of five year's clinical experience post qualification, as a health professional within mental health, providing therapeutic intervention, assessment, and case management.
