About the role
The Kāpiti Coast District Council’s Rates team is responsible for ensuring the invoicing and collection of property and water rates is carried out in compliance with relevant legislation including the Local Government Act 2002, the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002; The Rating Valuations Act 1998 and in a manner that is Customer focused, Efficient, Accurate and Timely.
In this pivotal role, you will lead and work collaboratively with a dedicated team of Water/Rates Officers to ensure all functions are working effectively. This will include ensuring key tasks are carried out effectively including maintaining ratepayer information; processing changes; rebates and remissions; debt collection and dealing with ratepayer enquiries. This role is fixed term until September 2025.

Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in leading small teams who need to work effectively and deliver quality outcomes.
- Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer service and willingness to and capability for working with a wide range of people within and outside the organization.
- Effective communication skills both oral and written.
- Knowledge of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002.
- Effective time management skills and ability to work effectively without supervision and collaboratively as an effective team member.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to deliver quality outcomes.
- Capability to remain calm and make clear decisions when customer interactions escalate.
- Highly competent working with MS Office products and the ability and willingness to learn new systems and processes. The Council currently uses Magi Q.
- Experience working with financial systems and databases.
- Experience working with continuous process improvement.
- Holder of a current and valid NZ Driver License is preferred.
