Our School offers three majors: BSc Physical Education, Activity & Health; BSc Sport & Exercise Science and BSc/BA in Sport Development & Management.
The role/Te mahi
We invite applications for a 0.6 FTE Teaching Fellow, to provide teaching support to the practicums and placements offered in SPEX 316/516.
This paper offers 3rd year students and postgraduate students the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge gained from papers taken in the first two years of their degree in real-world Physical Education, Sport & Exercise settings. Its aim is to develop professional skills, knowledge and judgement through a supervised setting.
Working closely with the academic paper coordinator, the general expectations of the role include:
  • Supporting the design, content and where appropriate, delivery of practicums offered.
  • Having oversight over assessment criteria and involvement in marking student written assignments and verbal presentations.
  • Liaising with academic and placement supervisors to discuss student progress.
  • Pastoral care of students in the paper.
  • Potential to supervise placement students.
  • Engaging with community organisations to explore placement/practicum opportunities.
  • Contributing to the effective and efficient running of the School and its responsibilities within the University and wider community.
  • Promoting the School’s efforts to understand and realise the letter and the spirit of the University’s Māori Strategic Framework, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
The successful candidate will have:
  • At a minimum an undergraduate qualification in an area related to physical education, sport and exercise science.
  • Experience of effective teaching, or student support in a school or tertiary education setting or supporting the delivery of community-based physical education, sport & exercise opportunities.
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions, as guided by Kāi Tahu who are mana whenua in the region.
  • A New Zealand driver’s licence.
  • A current First Aid Certificate.

This is a permanent, part time (0.6 FTE / 22.5 hour) position, located in Otepōti, Dunedin.
Flexible working hours will be agreed with the successful candidate. Expected start date is January 2025.
The appointment range for a Teaching Fellow (TFP1) is $70,692 to $82,008 (pro rata) per annum. The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate step on this scale based on qualifications and experience.
