We’re looking for a Pou Aarahi for Te Ohomauri o Kirikiriroa Hamilton City Libraries, part of Hamilton City Council’s Customer & Community Services Unit. If you think it could be you, kia koorero taaua!
For this role, you must have:
3+ years experience leading a Kaupapa Maaori within the setting of a cultural institution such as library, museum or the public sector
Experience working directly with Maaori communities, iwi authorities, or Maaori organizations
Matatau ki te reo Maaori, aa-tuhi, aa-waha hoki
Can I work flexibly?
Because of the nature of the mahi of Hamilton City Libraries across seven sites 6 or 7 days a week, this role is 40-hour per week, with the majority of the time in-person. Occasionally you may need to do some evening and/or weekend work. We’re happy to discuss your flexibility needs against the requirements of the role.

The role starts at $90,000

What does a day in this job look like?
Working closely with Hamilton City Libraries leadership team and throughout the libraries to guide and support staff knowledge and use of tikanga and te reo in delivering the Libraries’ Strategy. This might look like welcoming new visitors, leading karakia and waiata, to seeking advice from iwi and hapuu
Koorero in te reo Maaori, applying tikanga to work, and incorporating kaupapa Maaori into Libraries’ work practices, programme and service development and delivery
Providing guidance, advice and support for Libraries’ programmes and services, collections, research, exhibitions, promotions and engagement
Supporting and guiding library staff with developing and maintaining relationships with mana whenua, maatawaka, local iwi and hapuu
Promoting Hamilton City Libraries’ connections with iwi, hapuu, mana whenua, maatawaka, Maaori organisations, and community partners
Working with the other teams in the Customer & Community Services Unit, including Aquatics and Customer Services
Who will I report to?
You’ll report directly to Te Manutaki Tuhirau |Director of Libraries and you are part of the Libraries Leadership team. You’ll also work closely with all library teams across seven sites
