About the business and the role:
Set in the heart of the Marlborough Sounds, the Bay of Many Coves is an internationally recognised five star lodge, set amid a rolling landscape of untouched native bush that reaches down to the shoreline of the tranquil Queen Charlotte Sound. Although BOMC is located in a remote location, it is very accessible being just a 30 minute water taxi from Picton (or short helicopter ride from Wellington or Blenheim).
The position that we have available is a Maintenance role, and we envision that this could be filled by someone commuting from Picton on the water taxi service (or own boat). This position would be a long-term part-time position, and we are looking for someone who is able to work independently, comfortable managing and prioritising tasks on the maintenance list, ordering supplies and working with tradesmen, and working with power tools, painting etc.
Given the seasonal nature of activity here in the Sounds, there is less emphasis on large maintenance projects in the summer months, so naturally the maintenance workload is smaller in the summer, and larger in the winter, when guest rooms are vacant and available for project work to be completed. Of course, throughout the summer months, there are always smaller projects ongoing around the property and preventative maintenance to be completed, as well as the odd urgent repair job. The role could be fairly flexible to suit your lifestyle, but broadly speaking we would envision the successful applicant commuting a couple of days per week through the summer to stay on top of regular maintenance requirements, and taking a more active role with more hours through the winter in order to focus on larger projects once guest activity levels reduce, as well as the regular painting requirements year round, particularly around Spring time when weather allows. Onsite accommodation would be provided as needed during the quieter Autumn – Spring months.
Given the flexible nature of the role, the hours could be molded to suit your needs. We envision this could be a perfect opportunity for a semi-retired trade/handy person – and someone who values their summers but wants to keep busy over the winter months.
