Your responsibilities will include:
Our ESH Manager is responsible for shaping the overall direction of Environmental Health and Safety across the country. This role is pivotal in fostering a safe working environment, driving a culture of safety, and ensuring compliance with local and national regulations. It requires strong leadership, collaboration skills, and a deep understanding of health and safety legislation and best practices.
Key aspects of this role include:
Strategic Leadership: You will set the direction for Health and Safety policies, processes, and procedures across New Zealand, ensuring they are robust, implemented, maintained, and continuously improved.
Operational Management: Driving operational business solutions related to HSE is critical. This involves both the development of new safety strategies and ensuring current ones remain effective.
Incident Management: You will lead investigations of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) related incidents, identifying hazards, and overseeing job safety analysis. Your role is vital in determining root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
Compliance Audits: Conducting compliance audits and preparing action plans will be a core function. You’ll be tasked with ensuring the business adheres to relevant health and safety regulations and legal requirements.
Collaboration and Support: With the support of local and regional teams, you will work closely with the business to provide coaching, support, and expert advice. Your role is to be a trusted partner, helping the organization achieve its safety goals and maintain compliance.
Continuous Improvement: An ongoing focus on continuous improvement in health and safety practices is key. You'll encourage a culture of safety awareness and proactive risk management.
About you:
To be considered for the role we are seeking applicants who have the following skills and attributes:
- Relevant qualifications within the Environment, Safety and Health fields (minimum diploma).
- Proven experience leading a team within an ESH environment (5 years minimum).
- Established experience working, with and influencing, across all levels of the organisation, including Senior Leadership.
- ISO 45001 & 14001 certification experience.
- Outstanding business acumen and commercial awareness.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite and reporting tools.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) including an ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports.
Special Requirements:
Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain a New Zealand Defence Secret Security Clearance by meeting one of the following criteria:
- A NZ citizen, OR
- A NZ Permanent Resident who has resided in NZ for the past 10 years OR
- A citizen of Australia, Canada, UK or the USA who has a current work permit for NZ
You will also be required to undergo pre-employment activities including drug screening and vetting by NZ Police.
