We have a fantastic opportunity for 2 Kaiāwhina Kaupapa Māori Tiaki Hapori to join the team and help us make a tangible impact on our community’s resilience to climate change. These roles will support the council’s Community Resilience Group, tangata whenua, and communities in their collaborative efforts to strengthen resilience in a changing climate. The key focus of these roles will be providing support and advice to the Community Resilence team to support relationship building with whānau, hapū, and iwi. You will Provide awhi and support to the Community Resilience group, sharing your knowledge and learnings from a te ao Māori perspective. Your work will support the development of mana-enhancing relationships with whānau, hapū, and iwi, ensuring their aspirations are recognized and supported. We are looking for someone who can bring the following to our diverse talent pool:
Sound understanding of tikanga Māori and, ideally, ability to converse in te reo Māori.
Tertiary qualification and/or significant experience relevant to the functions of the position.
A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the complexity of tāngata whenua issues and challenges, particularly in regard to Te Taitokerau.
Confidence and experience communicating and engaging on marae and with communities.
Knowledge history of Aotearoa New Zealand and an understanding and appreciation of the place of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in national and regional affairs.
Local government experience or understanding of local government operations.
Knowledge of the drivers and impacts of climate change would be an advantage
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, gaining trust and respect.
