About the role
The CAA is looking for an experienced engineer to take on the role of Certification Engineer and working either individually or as part of a diverse team, spread across different locations in New Zealand. You will be assessing new aircraft types, products, parts and appliances to ensure they meet the requirements for certification, completing all associated activity necessary to gain assurance that the product meets the required standards detailed in the relevant Civil Aviation Rules (CAR), and to make and give effect to product certification decisions.
You will also need to assist from time to time in the certification and oversight of CAR Part 146 Design Organisations and CAR Part 148 Manufacturing organisations. You will also provide subject matter expertise on CAR Part 21 and other relevant airworthiness requirements (such as those issued by the FAA or EASA for aircraft and rotorcraft) both inside and outside the CAA.
This role can be Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch based but an ability to travel both domestically and international is required.
The salary band for this position goes from $115,536 to $161,412 with a mid-range being $141,751. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader Authority for the same or similar roles.
What You’ll Bring
As a Certification Engineer you will be responsible for the assessment of aircraft designs for the purposes of issuing type certificates, type acceptance certificates, supplemental type certificates, and other aircraft part and appliance approvals.
To be successful in this role you will require,
A Bachelor of Engineering Degree or higher.
A minimum of eight years of commercial experience in related engineering fields.
Experience in providing specialist advice on aircraft certification and other related specialist areas is highly desirable.
A degree of diplomacy to deal with a variety of clients and maintain a professional demeanour.
Open mindedness and adaptability.
Ability to engage, make connections and keep the team updated.
Ability to look at the big picture, ensuring the best safety outcomes are achieved.
