Privacy Legal Counsel – Global Data Protection:

The role:
We have a dedicated Global Data Protection legal team made up of data protection lawyers and privacy professionals. The team supports the business and its affiliates by providing advice on data protection matters, monitoring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, training the ICON community, maintaining documentation related to data processing and acting as the contact point on data privacy matters.
The privacy team supports all of ICON’s businesses across the globe from our core research and monitoring businesses, laboratories, technology teams to our research clinics. The privacy issues we support directly impact all parties across the clinical research eco system from big pharma to biotechs, research physicians to the study subjects and patients. This role will report to a Sr Manager, Legal counsel and Assistant Global Data Protection Officer. The team supports ICON plc’s core clinical research businesses globally on a diverse range of issues e.g. the development of cutting-edge clinical research platforms and technology, ICON’s Global Large Pharma and Biotech clinical trial divisions, Late Phase Clinical Research and laboratory businesses.
Responsibilities will include:
- Advising on relevant laws, national guidelines, codes and best practices in relation to data protection.
- Assist in responding to and managing data protection breaches and incidents (ICON as data controller and ICON as a data processor)
- Supporting and advising on privacy impact assessments
- Supporting on ICON's obligations on international transfers of personal data.
- Helping build and manage the Global ICON Privacy Program e.g. designing, implementing and adopting procedures, privacy tools and privacy strategy development.
- Advising and supporting ICON on its obligations in relation to regulatory obligations and monitoring compliance with regulations.
- Advising on and drafting data protection contractual provisions in agreements with clients, vendors and sites as well as on terms and conditions for use of ICON products and services.
- Advising on specific data protection aspects of ICON corporate and commercial initiatives including vendor selection.
- Staying current with global privacy laws and practices.
- Support maintaining records of processing activities.
- Monitoring compliance with policy and procedures as required
We are looking for:
- A qualified lawyer with 1+ years PQE, or alternative demonstrable experience within Data Protection/ Privacy. A qualified lawyer with less than 1 year PQE will be considered e.g. if a candidate has qualified in a leading law firm with relevant privacy experience.
- A keen interest in working in a privacy role in our industry.
- A comprehensive grasp of the EU General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Principles.
- Ability to independently evaluate complex issues and utilize judgment to sort through diverse opinions to achieve consensus.
- Proven team player with demonstrated leadership and/or consultation skills.
