Legal Typist (Remote) Day and Evening Support

Company Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual who has direct and relevant experience of typing for Barristers and Solicitors, is fully au fait with all legal jargon, and is excellent at multi-tasking and using multiple software applications in a fast paced environment. The successful candidate will need to have advanced/excellent formatting, grammar and spelling skills.
Job Description:
As a Legal Typist, you will be responsible for transcribing general correspondence for Solicitors, as well as court pleadings and legal documents for Barristers and Senior Counsel.

This role requires a minimum of 8-15+ years of experience in working directly with/for Barristers and Solicitors and a strong knowledge of legal court documents, precedents, templates, and legal jargon. This is a self-employed, subcontractor role.
You must be available during daytime office hours (between 9.30am and 3-4pm (some flexibility on daily finishing time), as evenings only or weekends only availability will not work/be considered.
We are also considering applicants for evening/weekend work/support - but you must be set up with a home office, have your own transcription kit and be ready to start work immediately in this regard.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Transcribe legal correspondence documents, as well as court pleadings, etc. with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain a typing speed of 85-100+ words per minute.
  • Must have advanced/excellent formatting, grammar and spelling skills.
  • Handle large volumes of work, including the transcription of up to 1-2 hours of audio per day.
  • Collaborate with Barristers and Senior Counsel to meet fast and accurate turnaround times.
Requirements:
  • 8-15 years+ experience working with Solicitors, Barristers, Senior Counsel, and legal court documents.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook and Advanced MS Word with knowledge of section breaks, numbering, footnotes, tables and formatting to a very high standard.
  • Home office setup with required equipment, including Olympus Transcription Kit & Software, reliable internet access, anti-virus package (Eset or Kaspersky), One Drive, and Skype accounts.
  • Minimum Windows 10 Operating System with MS Office 2016 or higher, 500GB hard drive, and 8GB RAM.
  • Strong self-motivation, discipline, and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent availability, flexibility, and commitment to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a very fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and enjoy being challenged as this role is so much more than just typing - you will be multi-tasking across different documents, ensuring to meet each individual client's requirements.
