Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains Ireland’s €2.7bn, 14,664km national gas network, which is considered one of the safest and most modern renewables-ready gas networks in the world. Over 720,000 Irish homes and businesses trust Ireland’s gas network to provide efficient and reliable energy to meet their heating, cooking, manufacturing and transport needs. The gas network is the cornerstone of Ireland’s energy system, securely supplying more than 30% of Ireland’s total energy, including 40% of all heating and almost 50% of the country’s electricity generation. By working to replace natural gas with renewable gases, such as biomethane and green hydrogen, and complementing intermittent renewable electricity, Gas Networks Ireland is supporting Ireland’s journey to a cleaner energy future. The Role:
Reporting to the Technical Manager – Hydrogen Programme, the Hydrogen Technical Analyst, will play a key role in supporting the demonstration of network readiness and delivery of all technical/ safety aspects pertaining to the hydrogen programme for Gas Networks Ireland. The jobholder will actively collaborate and forge relationships with other business units in the business and external stakeholders to ensure that all technical and safety considerations associated with the injection, transportation and storage of hydrogen on the network has been considered and comprehensively addressed, and delivered in a systematic manner. Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the delivery of the technical goals of the Hydrogen Programme including works programmes across the COO and A&I pillars
Support the administration, control and maintenance of technical databases relating to the hydrogen programme
Supporting the administration of the hydrogen technical safety working group including updating of relevant materials, action tracking, agenda/ minute preparation and other relevant tasks
Oversee progress on internal hydrogen projects and provide progress reports to internal and external stakeholders
Driving improvement projects or initiative requirements as an output of hydrogen programme
Develop and implement a "horizon scanning" function to address emerging issues across the up/mid/down-stream hydrogen activities including as such as:
Monitoring of national , UK and EU developments in the hydrogen space across the value chain (generation, storage, transportation and end-use)
Maintaining up-to-date technical and commercial information on the complete Hydrogen supply chain with regards to international best practice
Engage and work with third parties such as Engineering Service Provides and Technical Specialists as necessary to deliver work scopes
Represent GNI/ Hydrogen Programme at internal and external fora as required
Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers
Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Relevant degree in Engineering (Level 8) or equivalent recognised Level 8 with a minimum of 3 years’ experience
Enthusiastic self-starter with a proactive approach to problem solving and process development
Good self-learner with ability to review, assess and document large volumes of technical information
Ability to work on own initiative and to set high standards of performance
Strong analytical and commercial acumen with high level of computer literacy i.e. Microsoft Office, etc.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to work with multi - disciplinary teams
Must be flexible with a positive attitude to change
