Regional Clinical Supervisor, Community Counselling

Department Information
The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) offers challenging and exciting careers in health and social services delivery and administration in Canada’s North. The Territorial Authority has service locations in communities across the territory and a staff of more than 1,600 serving over 43,000 residents of the NWT and 5,900 residents of the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. Challenging work, welcoming communities, and expanded opportunities are some of the benefits offered to employees of the NTHSSA.
Job Information
As the Regional Clinical Supervisor, Community Counselling, you will be a key member of the Primary Community Care (PCC) and Community Wellness and Support Services (CWSS) Program teams within the Beaufort Delta region (BDR). You will provide functional and advanced clinical supervision, education, and leadership to Community Counsellor (CC) positions, while ensuring adherence to the standards and protocols of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) Community Counselling program. In addition to this, you will monitor and coordinate the quality of clinical services offered to individuals, families and communities to ensure services provided are ethical, in line with evidence-based practice models, and harm is not done through inappropriate delivery of support, counselling and therapeutic services. You must ensure all programs and services in these areas are delivered in a culturally safe manner and reflects the unique cultural identity of individuals and communities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to developing ongoing individual and group clinical supervision sessions; teaching clinical skills and current counselling theories; monitoring staff skill development, and in turn, ensuring client welfare; evaluating staff competencies; developing prevention and promotion initiatives; mentoring care coordination techniques; and providing the earliest possible intervention during or after a crisis. You provide leadership in the region in the provision of mental health/wellness, substance use/misuse, and healthy families/family violence programming.
You will be required to travel within the BDR several times annually and will be required to be on-call during off hours for periods of time, and to provide support following a critical incident such as those involving the loss of life through suicide, fire, accidents etc., with little or no notice as part of a debriefing team. As a result of providing supervision, education and leadership to staff living in isolated, Northern communities, you will be required to travel on a regular basis on small planes and ice or winter roads when traveling to or from the different communities.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Master’s degree in counselling psychology, clinical psychology, or social work with three (3) years of relevant counselling experience in a scope of practice or experience restricted to addictions, mental health, and/or family violence.

The education and/or work experience of the Clinical Supervisor should include clinically supervised experience. Clinically Supervised education and/or work experience includes counselling and clinical experience obtained under a qualified supervisor.
The incumbent must also have one (1) year of experience in supervising or leading a team in a Mental Health and Addictions setting.
Additional Requirement:
Registration with a relevant professional regulatory body is required.
