JOB OVERVIEW As a member of the communications team at the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), the Manager, Communications, is primarily responsible for managing internal communications across CCS and corporate and executive communications to external audiences. As part of an expanding strategy to deepen engagement with staff and be a thought leader, this role delivers communications planning, implementation and evaluation. The Manager, Communications has a deep understanding of internal communications strategies and tactics as well as corporate and executive communications and reputation management. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Working with the Senior Manager and Director of Strategic Communications, in partnership with key internal stakeholders, leads all nationwide, internal communications
Develops a variety of engaging, employee-centric materials such as video and written updates, presentation materials and digital content
Acts as managing editor of internal e-newsletter and intranet site
Leads the production of regular Town Halls – our virtual and bilingual all staff meetings – including working with external vendors and contractors
Acts as a communications advisor for internal stakeholders providing advice and recommendations on internal, corporate and executive communications strategies, including issues and crisis management
Plans and executes internal, corporate and executive communications plans as required
Develops communications tools as required to support corporate, executive, issues and crisis communications, including key messages, news releases, speaking notes, annual reports, and more
Provides evaluation and recommendations to improve communications to meet quality standards and support the organization’s positioning, reputation and brand both internally and externally as appropriate
Monitors external (media and health industry) developments/trends/issues and internal environments to develop proactive action plans in order to anticipate and respond to critical factors/issues that are likely to impact CCS’s image or reputation
Manages one direct report, Communications Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
Five or more years of experience in communications with direct experience in internal communications
Demonstrated experience in developing communications strategies for internal and external audiences
Strong experience working in a team-based environment, including working with executives
Exceptional oral and written skills, including presentation skills
Superb organizational skills, project management and multi-tasking ability
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and sustain good relationships
Proven negotiation skills
Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative where required, while working under pressure with often changing deadlines
Strong customer service orientation and professionalism
Strong attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft tools including Power Point, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and Share Point
Video production experience is an asset
French proficiency is an asset
