Introduction The Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education invites applications from Permanent, Probationary and Temporary (Casual) employees currently with Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education as well as outside applicants for the following Licensed Journeyman Plumber. This is a Full time Regional position serving the Chignecto Family of Schools, based in Chignecto Family Office (Springhill).
Minimum Requirements o Licensed journeyman (Plumber) with a Red Seal Certificate.
o Minimum of Grade 12 High School Diploma or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma.
o Minimum of three (3) years work experience in the trade (preference for commercial/industrial/ institutional settings).
o Valid Nova Scotia driver´s license and be willing to drive extensively throughout CCRCE.
o Ability to read and understand construction diagrams.
o Ability to analyze and solve through troubleshooting, a wide variety of problems related to facility maintenance.
o Ability to physically perform the duties required including significant periods of walking, extended periods of standing, sitting, involves heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and repetitive push/pull motion.
o Experience working in an educational setting.
o Ability to operate a personal computer (with experience in PC application of word processing, spreadsheets) an asset.
Additional Assets Position Summary
The Licensed Journeyman Plumber position shall provide support to the CCRCE Property Services Program. The incumbent shall work in partnership with other staff and supervisors in a collaborative environment.
Competencies Required
The Licensed Journeyman Plumber position in the Property Services Division of the Operational Services Dept. of the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education shall have the following competencies:
(a) A general knowledge of work in numerous trades, i.e. carpentry, electrical, ventilation, sheet metal, masonry and painting etc. as well as building construction including the building envelope, structure, mechanical, electrical, heating, safety and utility systems.
(b) Ability to work as a contributing team member and adapt to frequently changing priorities.
(c) Ability to maintain a professional standard and commitment when meeting operational requirements that can have tight timeframes.
(d) Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
(e) Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
(f) A working knowledge of applicable building codes, and regulatory requirements including Fire Code and the Provincial Fire Safety Program.
(g) The knowledge and ability to engage in continuing education and skills upgrading, as necessary.
(h) A demonstrated competency in administrative and organizational tasks including competency in the operation of a personal computer.
(i) Ability to take initiative in recognizing, prioritizing, and scheduling of work.
(j) The ability to work collaboratively with staff members in all departments and functions.
(k) Ability and willingness to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks and labour in various trades.
(l) Willingness to accept Centre offered training and related tasks.
(m) Willingness to complete courses in WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, Water Certification, Confined Space or other regulatory training sessions.
(n) Capable of working as a member of a team or individually working efficiently with minimal supervision.
Specific Job Components
The Licensed Journeyman Plumber shall support the Property Services initiatives in the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education´s facilities and activities. Those tasks may vary from time to time and may include the following:
(a) Perform all work in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
(b) Install, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and repair all plumbing systems within the CCRCE, as directed and assigned.
(c) Diagnose plumbing problems and identify any required materials and parts to complete assignments.
(d) Maintain appropriate documentation of work performed through use of approved work order system by the preparation of required reports and accurate records.
(e) Maintain knowledge of CCRCE policies and procedures and contribute to the implementation of Property Services policies and procedures and follow same.
(f) Occasionally assist or perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair and construction work in the basic trades such as carpentry, plumbing, mechanical systems, etc. as required.
(g) Perform preventative maintenance tasks on installed equipment and mechanical and electrical systems.
(h) Ensure that appropriate procedures are followed within the Electrical Code, National Building, and Fire Codes.
(i) Maintain required inventory needs as required.
(j) Instruct users in the proper application and care of any installed components.
(k) Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
(l) Observe and implement proper safety practices for a safe and secure workplace.
(m) Perform general clean-up of job site.
(n) Maintain assigned vehicle in an orderly fashion. Ensure regular operational checks are carried out, regular vehicle maintenance is scheduled, and regular mileage log is maintained.
(o) Maintain confidentiality regarding student, school and Centre matters.
(p) Participate in workshops and training sessions, as required.
(q) Performing such other duties as requested or assigned by Supervisor.
Work Environment
o Unionized position working under the CCRCE/CUPE collective agreement.
o Extensive travel required, based from the area Family Office.
o Potential to work with chemicals in operations setting.
o Normal working hours during the week according to operational requirements of position as determined by supervisor(s).
Qualifications
o Licensed journeyman (Plumber).
o Minimum of Grade 12 High School Diploma or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma.
o Minimum of three (3) years work experience in the trade (preference for commercial/industrial/ institutional settings).
o Valid Nova Scotia driver´s license and be willing to drive extensively throughout the Applicable Family of Schools.
o Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and complete a Child Abuse Registry form.
o Ability to read and understand construction diagrams.
o Ability to work with and perform basic duties of various trades.
o Ability to analyze and solve through troubleshooting, a wide variety of problems related to facility maintenance.
o Ability to operate a personal computer (with experience in PC application of word processing, spreadsheets) an asset.
o Ability to physically perform the duties required including significant periods of walking, extended periods of standing, sitting, involves heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and repetitive push/pull motion.
o Experience working in an educational setting.
o Exposure to computer maintenance systems such as SAP is an asset.
