About the role This role has primary responsibility for safe, effective and reliable 24/7 operations of Icon Water’s major treatment plant operations (Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre, and Stromlo and Googong Water Treatment Plants including compliance with Utilities Act 2000, Water Resources Act 2007, Environment Protection Act 1997, Water and Sewerage Act 2000 and the Public Health Act 1997. In addition the role has responsibility to provide technical and people leadership to all areas of the major treatment plant operations team and operations engineering team within Icon Water’s Major Plants Branch. Lead, mentor and manage the plant operations team and operations engineering teams to ensure excellence in operations delivery and continuous improvement and efficiency in operational practices. Define performance expectations for direct reports, monitor performance against defined standards and take actions to address performance issues.
Manage, review and control the team budgets and resource allocations including identification of capability required for the continued effective operations of the major plants. This includes prioritisation of operational activities as required
In collaboration with Major Plant Maintenance Team Lead coordinate all operational activities at Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre sewage treatment plant ensuring compliance with Icon Water’s Environmental Authorisation issued by the ACT EPA
In collaboration with Major Plant Maintenance Team Lead coordinate all Water Operations activities at Mount Stromlo and Googong Water Treatment facilities, ensuring licence requirements of ACT Health (Mount Stromlo WTP) and the NSW EPA (Googong WTP) are met at all times
Establish and maintain operational systems (shift rosters, chemical stores and manifests), process and capability (training, competence, and competency certification) to deliver effective and efficient operations of Icon Water’s assets to achieve compliance with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and Icon Water’s Water Pollution Discharge Licence and Air Pollution Act requirements and objectives.
Drive continuous improvement in safety and delivery of operations and operations engineering including identification of efficiencies and opportunities to improve operations.
Facilitate effective working relationships between operations delivery, maintenance, process engineering and plant engineering, and other delivery partners.
Working across the organisation, coordinate cross discipline major operation activities and project works including major shutdowns.
Develop and implement organisational procedures, work instructions, standards, and enablers to support and specify the conduct of operations delivery. Ensure the Information Management System related to Major Plant Operations activities is maintained up to date

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering/Science or equivalent.
Frontline leadership experience in an industrial, manufacturing or utility service delivery environment
Possess proven technical skills and abilities applicable in the operation of water treatment or industrial processing plants
Sound understanding of the legislative and reporting requirements including ACT Environmental Protection Act, the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, and implementation of HACCP.
Demonstrated experience in managing safety in an industrial environment
Demonstrated experience in exercising sound judgement in an environment of competing interests
Demonstrated experience in leadership and team management skills including motivating and influencing others to deliver required outcomes
Experience in managing contractors and other service providers
Sound knowledge of health and safety and equal employment opportunity principles and practices with the ability to implement in the workplace.
