· Designing, making and repairing boots and shoes, using hand and machine tools. · Discussing type of footwear to be made and obtaining accurate measurements use tools such as measuring tapes, foot gauges, and foot scanners. Estimating custom footwear costs. · Designing and creating patterns, sketches, models, and prototypes of boots and shoes using form of foot and pattern paper, and outlining patterns on leather. · Selecting patterns and leather or other material and outlining taking into account factors such as durability, comfort, and style. · Cutting out parts with shears and knife, and sewing them together on machine to form uppers. Cutting patterns, shaping and preparing materials. Working with a variety of materials, such as leather, suede, rubber, and synthetic materials. · Marking eyelets, punching them out, and inserting metal rings and clinching them on machine to design specifications and drawings using tools such as cutting knives, scissors, and specialized machinery. · Assembling last and attaching it to stand. Fastening insoles to lasts, joining various parts of shoe including the sole, upper, and lining, using rivets, specialized tools such as hand sewing, sewing machines, cutting knives and adhesive and techniques such as stitching, gluing, and nailing. · Tacking insole on last and drawing upper over last, tacking it in place. · Clicking synthetics, correcting grains, leather linings and leather outers by hand and machine. Trimming, dressing, inspecting and otherwise finishing completed boots or shoe. Polishing the final components · Attaching outer sole to lasted upper by sewing it on or by roughening surface of sole with rasp and wire brush, coating it with cement and hammering it. · Tacking on rand, leather lifts to build heel base, and heel. Trimming and buffing edges of sole and heel, using knife and buffing wheel. · Brushing dressing dye on shoe and polishing it. · Altering and repairing footwear. Removing stains and weathering, replacing worn-out soles or heels, fixing tears or holes, and restoring shoes to their original condition. Restoring soles, heels and other parts of footwear using sewing, buffing and other shoe repair machines, materials and equipment.
