Manning Base Hospital is a Level 4 Rural Referral Hospital located in the Mid North Coast. Their Emergency Department cares for approximately 38,000 people per year and is situated in a growing community. Manning’s Emergency team consist of resilient and hardworking team members whom pride themselves on their ability to provide quality health care to the Mid North Coast community.
About the role:
A typical day as Patient Experience Officer (PEO) involves heavily on being present and visible in the front of house area. Rounding of patients in the waiting room to offer support and maintain strong communication lines. The PEO’s role often act as patient advocates and assist the nursing team in ensuring safety and any escalation of concerns.
PEO role is 7 days per week and current shifts times, start at 12 midday and cease at 2030hrs. This time has been chosen around the peak periods of presentations to the Emergency Department activity.
About you:
It is expected that you will already have experience in a front of house type role where you are required to handle patients or people during their initial phase of entry. Having a strong background in communication and ability to de-escalate if required to preserve the safety of yourself, staff, and other patients is essential.
We will offer you support and knowledge in the emergency department process and role expectations, however it is essential for you to have basic working knowledge of how an emergency department functions.
You will be supported by your direct line manager, the Nurse Unit Manager of the Emergency Department who you will meet regularly and maintain strong communication lines with. Day to day you will work under the supervision of the emergency team leader/ Triage nurse and other team members on the day. The PEO team will consist of 3-4 fellow PEO staff however you generally work autonomously on the day unless high activity or event planning.
