Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation
(AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to 'Closing the Gap' in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.

Anyinginyi consists of four different sections (Health Services, Business Services, Public Health Unit and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families) which allow them to have a holistic approach to health ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi's mission is to be a provider of high quality holistic primary health care services featuring prevention and treatment in the Barkly region in a culturally responsive way.

As a small regional centre, Tennant Creek does not have the facilities one would find in larger country towns like Katherine or Alice Springs however it does provide for all the basics that most people require. There is a supermarket similar to a large IGA store, Post Office, clothing and furniture stores, Pharmacy, Newsagent, two banks (ANZ & Westpac), restaurants and coffee shops and four hotels/motels. It also has sporting facilities (e.g. swimming pool, basketball courts, tennis court, football ground, car racing track), and several tourists attractions within easy reach Like our Beautiful Lake Mary Ann!


About the Role



The Medicare Officer predominately works in the Health Centre to provide culturally appropriate and efficient services to all clients.

This position works closely with the Administration Manager in ensuring continuous improvement in the areas of capturing Medicare funding around client services. The Medicare Officer is a key service position and will maintain conficentiality the integrity of information, always working as a member of a high performing multi-disciplinary team and respecting Aboriginal values, beliefs, customs, language, and traditional practices.


More specifically, some of your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Manage billing, collecting, post-payment review and correspondence functions of all Medicare accounts.
  • Prepare Medicare claims, organize provider numbers for staff, checking and recording of Medicare reimbursements and correcting faulty claims.
  • This role requires a details-oriented person with high level computer and database skills and familiarity in using computerised accounting and health data software packages, including Excel, Communicare, PRODA and other health related software.
  • Support Administration Manager in operations.
  • Undertake other administrative duties as directed in accordance with Health Centre services and organisational expectations including:
  • Overall coordination and effective functioning of all Medicare administration processes within Anyinginyi Health;
  • Reconciliation of Medicare item numbers and Medicare benefits paid to Anyinginyi;
  • Proper record keeping of all Anyinginyi Medicare Revenue accrual processes;
  • Contributing towards an annual Medicare Revenue forecasting process for Anyinginyi
  • Preparing Quarterly and Annual Medicare Revenue Statements; and
  • Working with the Health Services and Practice Managers to ensure that Anyinginyi meets all required Medicare Australia regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold the vision, mission and priorities of the organisation as determined by the Board of Directors and outlined in its Strategic Plan.
  • Foster a professional and culturally safe work environment through effective management of the Medicare and claims portfolio for all claiming parties across all Sections.
  • Work within limits of confidentiality and privacy appropriate to the Medicare and claims portfolio.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and processes, including work health and safety, to ensure programs and services meet professional and industry standards.
  • Undertake other duties as required within the position capabilities by the Health Services Section Manager.
About you


To be successful in this role, you must have demonstrated experience in Medicare administrative work.
