Job description Austop Fisheries is looking for experienced general fish hands to join our team operating out of Darwin. Role includes both sea time and shore-based duties. Specific responsibilities of the position include:
Handling ropes and wires, and operating mooring equipment
Standing lookout at sea and adjusting the vessel’s course as directed
Assisting with other aspects of vessel’s operations
Performing ongoing maintenance and checks on all equipment
Casting and lowering nets, pots, lines, and traps into water
Hauling in fishing gear and removing fish and other marine life
Sorting, cleaning, preserving, stowing, and refrigerating catch
Fish filleting and processing
Ensuring all aspects of the fishing vessel’s operations are always conducted safely
Key attributes and skills required for the position:
Good level of physical fitness
Demonstrated ongoing commitment to work health and safety and duties of care
Sufficient English language skills to be able to perform all responsibilities efficiently and safely
Minimum 2 years of verifiable experience working as a fish hand on a vessel
