The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Contract Manager to join the Future Satellite Communications Systems Program Office (F-SATCOM SPO), within Space Systems Branch, supporting contracts associated with a wide-range of communications projects for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
As part of this role you will be responsible for:
- Procurement planning, tendering and contract formation for both acquisition and support contracts for numerous SATCOM SPO projects.
- Contract management activities, ensuring compliance with legislation, procurement policies, processes and procedures.
- Providing expert advice on best practice, identifying and developing mitigation strategies for risks associated with procurement and contracting activities, analysing contract performance.
- Building and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders at the strategic and operational level.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
Space Systems Branch acquires and sustains SATCOM systems, and is a trusted advisor of SATCOM systems for the Australian Defence Organisation. The team comprises professionals from various disciplines including project management, engineering, commercial, and logistics.
This multi-disciplinary team is composed of highly skilled and motivated Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force and contracted personnel.
The team works from Brindabella Park offices in Canberra and maintains close collaboration with other parts of Defence and other Government Agencies.
Our Ideal Candidate
Future SATCOM SPO is seeking a highly motivated and skilled contracting manager professional with an interest in delivering this strategically significant capability to the ADF.
The ideal candidate will have extensive commercial experience, preferably in large acquisition or major sustainment projects, and be able to demonstrate strong leadership capability.
Extensive knowledge of government procurement frameworks, legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements is highly desirable.
Key attributes include:
- Strong business acumen and sound commercial judgement.
- A thorough understanding of Defence’s commercial and procurement methods is advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams in a complex environment.
- Excellent communication and customer engagement skills with ability to negotiate and build relationships with stakeholders.
- High level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve results and business objectives.
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Procurement and Contracting is preferred.
