The Role
The AIR6500 Transition Manager is responsible for leading and managing the transition of the Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS) into service with the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The JABMS provides the core of the ADF’s future Integrated Air and Missile Defence capability. The role provides the opportunity to work at the forefront of sovereign technology development, providing Australia with improved defences against air and missile threats.
The role will work closely with industry partners, acquisition and sustainment organisations, within a dynamic agile project delivery environment, to enable the timely delivery of critical Defence capability. AIR6500 is a key enabler of Australia’s 2024 National Defence Strategy, bringing minimum viable capability into service as efficiently and effectively as possible.
The AIR6500 Agile delivery model sees the Transition Manager coordinating the delivery of capability products during incremental acquisition. This relies on flexibility and just-in-time processes to enable short-term needs, while still having a long-term view to enable ongoing refinement of delivered capability.
The Transition Manager is accountable for timely achievement of capability transition into operational service and is expected to manage associated risks and issues. The role is responsible for writing and managing transition plans, leading coordination across Defence and industry, setting priorities and providing guidance to deliver against a schedule of incremental capability realisation.
The successful applicant must have a strong work ethic, articulate communication skills, and be comfortable working to tight deadlines and managing ambiguity. Ideal attributes for the role include critical thinking, resilience, flexibility, organisational skills, initiative and strategic awareness.
