General Summary Responsible for oversight of Congregate Meal Service, including volunteer coordination and supervision, coordination of Supplemental Nutrition program for home delivery and congregate clients and coordination of responsive services for food insecure populations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Manage the safe and efficient preparation of senior dining services following all Meals on Wheels People Food Service Manual procedures and Health Department regulations.
Provide management and oversight of meal preparation, including scratch cooking, ethnic meal preparation, and service for the Meals on Wheels program and senior dining.
Manage and maintain adequate levels of food and non-food items, ensuring products are safe, secure, and properly stored.
Establish a positive, welcoming atmosphere for all participants and volunteers.
Assist Site Manager as necessary with responsive hunger relief services:
Supplemental meals for clients with food insecurity
Meal services for partnerships and contracts
Ethnic meals
Programming in response to isolation
Recruit, train and supervise kitchen and dining room volunteers.
Maintain high kitchen standards in sanitation and safety in accordance with all regulations. Recruit, train and supervise kitchen and dining room volunteers.
Participate in in-service training and attend required meetings.
Engage with Meals on Wheels People's annual agency-wide events and fundraising initiatives.
Support the mission, goals, and objectives of Meals on Wheels People, Inc.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Knowledge
High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate Degree or certification in Culinary Arts preferred
Current Food Handler's card and CPR certified or ability to obtain one upon hire
Demonstrated knowledge of food service standards
First Aid and CPR certified or ability to obtain within six months
Skills, Abilities & Experience
Minimum one-year experience in food service; volume and scratch cooking preferred
Bilingual/Bicultural English/Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Asian or African languages are strongly preferred and may qualify for an additional $1.00 per hour bilingual pay differential.
Ability to work with and manage volunteers
Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with diverse populations, including minorities, low income, and persons with disabilities
Strong ability to problem solve and implement solutions
Good verbal and written communication skills
Proven recordkeeping and organizational skills
Intermediate computer skills; familiarity with computer applications and MS Office; ability to learn new computer programs
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and 20-30lbs repetitively
Any satisfactory combination of experience, training and/or education that ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above qualifications.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands Fast-paced kitchen environment, with significant people interaction. Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs and 20-30lbs repetitively. Frequent reaching, bending, stooping and grasping. Frequent use of knives and cooking utensils, stove, oven and other kitchen equipment. Must pass drug and alcohol test and criminal background check.
