Safety Officer FT Days Position Summary
Implements an overall Hospital Safety Management Program to comply with all TJC, CMS, NFPA, EPA, OSHA, NEC, State and local AHJs regulations and requirements to maintain a safe compliant environment. Oversees all aspects of hospital safety and reports to the EOC Committee and hospital leadership. Maintain hospital survey readiness as it relates to TJC and CMS Accreditation Surveys.
Responsibilities
Responsible for planning, implementing, executing, evaluating, and managing the Environment of Care relative to facility operations. Responsible for the provision of engineering and technical counsel on codes and standards, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment in clinical areas and for the establishment of appropriate safety standards. Develops, implements, and maintains hazardous waste management program in accordance with all government regulations; prepares and files necessary reports; maintains documentation as required. Promotes the safety programs through environmental rounds and safety surveillance rounds. Reports findings and recommendations through to safety committee for action. Plans, conducts, critiques, and records disaster plan exercises, assuring hospital is prepared for internal or external disasters. Interfaces with appropriate government agencies concerning environmental health standards and workplace safety. Oversees, develops, and maintains updated information on NFPA Life Safety Codes and JCAHO building and safety requirements. Plans, conducts, critiques, and records disaster plan exercises. Oversees activities of hospital disaster committee to ensure optimal hospital preparedness in the event of an internal or external disaster. Works as a team member with the countywide emergency preparedness committees to ensure the facility meets the community needs in the event of a countywide disaster. Emergency Preparedness. Oversees hospital security management plan, assuring effective and appropriate utilization of hospital/contract security services to maximize the safety and security of the hospital for employees, visitors, medical staff, and volunteers.
THE SAFETY OFFICER FT DAYS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.
Education:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred: Graduate of trade or vocational school in related field.
Experience:
Required: 5 years of progressive experience in safety management, with at least 2 years in a hospital/healthcare environment.
Certifications:
Required: Certified Safety Professional
Preferred: Certified Life Safety Specialist
