Summary Statement
The incumbent will be assigned to the Jane E. Mitchell Forensic Unit of the Delaware Psychiatric Center, serving as the psychology representative on a multi-disciplinary treatment team for the inpatient hospitalization program. Responsibilities include conducting psychological assessments, creating individualized treatment plans, managing the treatment team schedule, and completing discharge documentation. They will also lead competency restoration programming, facilitate group and individual competency sessions, provide individual therapy, and supervise psychology students. Coverage for other psychologists may be required as needed.
Preferred Qualification
Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.

Essential Functions

  • Selects, administers, scores and interprets a wide variety of psychological tests to measure and evaluate intelligence, achievement, personality, interests and other mental characteristics.
  • Interviews and observes individuals at play, in group interactions, or other situations to detect indications of mental deficiency, abnormal behavior, or maladjustment.
  • Communicates with public, private and state agencies, community service organizations, courts, schools, police and families in order to develop effective treatment strategies.
  • Analyzes information to assess individual problems.
  • Evaluates the relevance and importance of psychological theories, concepts and principles.
  • Identifies symptoms, makes diagnoses and develops approach to treatment.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans, evaluates effectiveness and adapts plans.
  • Engages individuals in assisting in the identification of their emotional problems and in the identification of a variety of interventions to assist in addressing these issues.
  • Provides psychotherapy and other various treatments to individuals, groups and/or families.
  • Conducts psychological practice according to the ethical standards of psychology.
  • Writes progress notes and reports regarding test interpretation, evaluation and individual progress.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Psychologist
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possession of a doctoral degree in psychology.
  • Possession of a Delaware Psychologist license or eligibility for a Delaware Psychologist license.

Conditions of Hire
As a condition of hire, if the applicant does not possess a Delaware Psychologist license, the applicant must agree as a requirement of employment to obtain a Delaware Psychologist license within 6 months.
