KEY QUANTIFIABLE INDICATORS:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Education, or other Human Services field with one year experience in substance use prevention or education. Strong working knowledge of technology (i.e. personal computer, laptop, Microsoft Office applications, etc.), audiovisual equipment and other office equipment.
Staff providing substance abuse prevention services are required to be registered with or certified by the NCSAPPB (S.L. 2005-431). Staff is strongly encouraged to become certified with the practice board.
Valid NC driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
Skill Set:
Knowledge of principles and best practices of prevention, public health, mental health promotion, addiction & human development theory. Effective facilitation skills and techniques. Proven effective communication skills with diverse population including oral, electronic and written.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct services within the designated program areas by researching, planning, coordinating, and implementing prevention and early intervention services. Works closely with the team and the supervisor to meet program goals and objectives focusing on fulfilling consumer needs. Ability to build and sustain key community partnerships and alliances.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community-based Processes– to enhance the ability of the community to provide prevention and treatment services more effectively for alcohol, tobacco and other drug use disorders. Duties include but limited to : organizing, planning, and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of services implementation through inter-agency collaboration, coalition building and networking. Identify key stakeholders to partner in prevention planning activities. Collaborate with stakeholders in coordinating, implementing and evaluating prevention activities. Represent ADS on various local (statewide as needed) community coalitions, task forces, committees, boards. Serve as liaison between ADS and other community organizations in collaborative efforts. Provides consultation services to community regarding current drug trends and substance use related issues as well as effective prevention strategies.
Acts as a subject matter expert on the work of the coalition
Facilitates the organization of coalition events and activities
Provides support to members of the coalition based on group and individual need to accomplish stated priorities
Assists with recruiting new members
Works with the coalition to allocate resources for the work of the coalition
Prepares for monthly coalition meetings, including and development of handouts, presentations, and coordination of logistical needs
Delivers presentations, coalition communication and disseminate information
Builds and maintains relationships between and among community partners
Develops and maintains social media and web presence for coalition efforts
Facilitates monthly meetings
Engage in activities designed to establish or change written and unwritten community standards, codes and attitudes, thereby influencing incidence and prevalence of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs used in the general population. Complete monthly Synar requirements (merchant education activities, red flag, etc.). Work with law enforcement and other partners, as needed to address identified environmental change needs. Work with staff to assess needs and evaluate effectiveness of strategies. Youth Prevention Education- Facilitates groups, presentations and workshops for youth, parents, families, schools, agencies, and other special groups. Liaison between ADS and other community organizations. Engage in community-based processes and environmental strategies. Provides consultation services to community regarding substance use and effective prevention strategies. Other Direct Service Duties - Prepare, select and distribute substance misuse and educational information. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate one-time presentations and workshops for youth, parents, families, schools, agencies, and other identified stakeholder groups. Participate in community and/or school-based health fairs. Documentation -Work with team members to complete program evaluation activities (pre-post tests, surveys, data entry activities). Support department level needs assessment efforts, as needed (conducts surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.). Document all services in required format (activity reports, CSAP reports, SYNAR reports, monthly reports, service record, state data reporting system, and other documentation as required).
