We are currently seeking applicants for a Permit Technician to join our Building and Inspection's team at the City of Mandan. JOB SUMMARY This position performs technical and customer service functions in the processing of building permits.
MAJOR DUTIES
Answers telephone calls, responds to emails, and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
Balances cash and credit card receipts.
Accepts, reviews, and evaluates building permit applications for accuracy and completeness.
Examines plans and blueprints and scans into database.
Issues building, plumbing, fuel/gas, and water and sewer permits.
Schedules building inspections.
Processes accounts payable and receivable.
Gathers data and prepares weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
Uploads building permit monthly reports to the city website.
Runs and mails end-of-month statements.
Files new permits and scans old permits.
Prepares MARC agenda and minutes for bi-weekly meetings.
Prepares Certificates of Occupancy as required.
Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of city building permitting policies and procedures.
Knowledge of relevant building codes.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in managing files and records.
Skill in the gathering information and preparing reports.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
