Job Overview
Join a dynamic team working to provide peer support and build a sense of community with individuals living independently throughout the metro area. The Peer Provider will work in apartment communities to foster connections, create opportunities for community interaction, and develop natural supports among residents. Using their own lived experience of recovery, the Peer Provider will lead peer support groups and work with residents individually to address support needs, including behavioral health, substance use, and primary care. This role emphasizes a strengths-based, wellness-informed, and client-centered approach to help individuals achieve personal, self-directed goals. As a Peer Provider, you will work independently and in collaboration with treatment teams to coordinate quality services and supports for individuals and their households, promoting Cascadias trauma-informed, person-first approaches to create an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment.
Essential Duties
Role model empowerment, self-determination, and self-advocacy; share your personal recovery journey when appropriate.
Engage with individuals using strengths-based tools and harm reduction concepts.
Assist individuals in identifying goals for care/support plans and coordinate with the team to ensure continuity of services.
Build community connections and natural supports to promote self-sufficiency.
Provide individual and group support in life skills, wellness, hygiene, community resources, and more.
Coach residents on housing and community issues to reduce lease violations and improve neighbor relations.
Respond to crises per emergency protocols and work with treatment teams to ensure safety.
Qualifications:
Education
Peer Support Specialist Certification required, with Traditional Health Worker (THW) certification applied for before hire and obtained within 6 months.
Peer Wellness Specialist Certification preferred.
Experience
Experience as a former or current recipient of behavioral health services, with self-disclosure as a current/former recipient and personal experience in recovery.
Preferred experience working with adults with severe mental health challenges and/or those experiencing homelessness.
Skills and Knowledge
Familiarity with assertive engagement, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, recovery models, and strength-based case management.
Strong coping and adaptability skills in dynamic situations.
Computer proficiency in entering/retrieving data and preparing simple reports.
Other Requirements
Valid drivers license, three-year driving history, ability to pass DMV check, and completion of Cascadias Defensive Driving course. This position requires using a company vehicle for participant transportation.
