An Optometric Assistant/Optician is a very special type of medical assistant. The position includes assisting optometrists before and during an examination, as well as selecting and ordering eyewear. This includes a variety of patient care tasks, including: preparation of patients to be seen by the physician, performance of diagnostic tests, ordering and dispensing contact lenses, selecting and ordering eyewear, patient education and appropriate documentation (medical scribing).
