Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our ophthalmology practice as an Ophthalmic Technician and Scribe. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in assisting our ophthalmologist with patient care and documentation tasks. This position requires a combination of technical skills, medical knowledge, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities: Patient Care:
Assist ophthalmologist with patient examinations, including taking medical histories, performing preliminary tests (such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurement, and pupil assessments), and administering diagnostic procedures.
Prepare patients for procedures and surgeries, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process.
Educate patients on eye care procedures, medications, and post-operative care instructions as directed by the ophthalmologist
Documentation and Scribing:
Accurately document patient encounters, procedures, and treatment plans in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Transcribe ophthalmologist's observations, assessments, and treatment plans during patient examinations and procedures.
Assist with coding and billing processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and insurance guidelines.
Technical Support:
Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
Assist with diagnostic imaging procedures such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), IOL Master, Humphrey visual field testing.
Collaboration:
Collaborate effectively with other members of the healthcare team, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, and administrative staff, to provide comprehensive patient care.
Communicate patient-related information and updates to the ophthalmologist in a timely and organized manner.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to patient privacy, confidentiality, and medical record documentation (e.g., HIPAA).
Participate in quality assurance activities and initiatives to maintain high standards of patient care and service delivery.
