Mental Health Social Worker

Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY
Provides mental health services to victims of crime served by the Children’s Justice Center. Implements mental health best practice services to fulfill national accreditation standards. Participates in multidisciplinary team protocols to represent the best interest of child victims using a victim centered and trauma informed approach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from accredited college or university in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling or other closely related field, and Licensed as a Certified Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Utah.
Preference given to those with at least four (4) years of experience in a child related setting, with one (1) year of experience working with child victims, and one (1) year of counseling experience with youth.
Required to successfully complete 40 hours of evidence-based trauma-informed training within six (6) months of hire according to national accreditation standards.

A valid Driver’s license issued by the State of Utah is required to operate a vehicle.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must successfully pass a criminal background check as well as every two years thereafter and continuously meet the requirements of the Bureau of Criminal Information (BCI).

  • Provides trauma and suicide assessments with victims served at the program.
  • Provides crisis intervention services on site and by
  • Actively participated in multidisciplinary team staffing to provide clinical insight, share information and coordinate services.
  • May conduct individual, family and group counseling sessions/support groups in accordance with professional standards.
  • May interview, assess, and identify mental health needs using approved assessment instruments, social history, and consultation with community resources.
  • Makes treatment and social service referrals to appropriate
  • Communicates with community-based therapists regarding the victim’s needs and monitor progress according to established privacy and confidentiality procedures.
  • Provides training and education to the CJC staff and agency partners to facilitate a victim centered and trauma informed approach.
  • Maintains the program treatment provider linkage agreement partnerships with community based mental health agencies and collects required documentation to fulfill national accreditation standards.
  • Completes annual training and clinical supervision requirements for licensure and national accreditation standards.
  • Implements data entry, required documentation, and various reports.
  • Keeps manager informed and makes recommendations to improve mental health services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Knowledge of:
  • General and specific psychological principles, concepts, and DSM-5-TR manual
  • Different modes of psychotherapy, including crisis intervention
  • Principles and techniques of behavior assessment and modification
  • Principles of individual, group and family therapy
  • Fundamental understanding of social work concepts
  • Child development, child abuse dynamics and victim trauma reactions
  • Suicide, trauma and crisis intervention skills
  • Utah Laws on victim rights and child abuse statutes
  • Child abuse investigation, criminal justice and social service system processes
  • Community agencies, organizations, and programs that support victim of crime
  • Office computer systems and applications

Skills and Abilities to:
  • Facilitate a multidisciplinary teamwork process according to established protocols
  • Provide psychotherapy and crisis intervention services
  • Present trainings, lectures and workshops in small and large group settings
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Maintain confidential materials and information and protect client privacy
  • Understand state and federal confidentiality regulations
  • Analyze collected data
  • Manage interactions with multiple parties with different interests and roles
  • Work under stressful conditions, respond professionally and calmly in crisis situations
  • Exercise good judgement, independence and high degree of skill
  • Complete multiple projects with various deadlines
  • Utilize modern equipment used in evidence collection and analysis
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, outside agencies and the public as necessitated by the work
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily performed in a typical office environment, counseling settings, and child abuse investigation settings. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. CJC staff work regularly with clients in crisis situations and who have experienced significant trauma and abuse
