Job Summary:
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator serves as the central hub for marketing and communications efforts that promote the City of Owasso, and is responsible for coordinating, developing and disseminating clear, accurate and comprehensive information about the City’s programs, services, policies, events, individual department needs and other issues while utilizing the City’s digital and non-digital platforms as well as other media resources. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant to the City Manager and does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Salary:
Starting at $58,536 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience

Schedule:
- Candidate can select normal office hours of
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
- OR Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, AND Friday 7:30-11:30 am
- Must be able to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed
Essential Functions:
Provides relevant City information to media sources; oversees the development of publication of brochures, flyers, annual reports and other publications and communications to citizens; posts information social media platforms; creates and designs publications and content to explain City projects, services and programs based on and in line with the City-wide brand standards
Oversees the management and maintenance of the City’s website, implementing ongoing updates and other changes; ensures optimal performance and exceptional user experience; monitors analytics, and optimizes content for search engines
Develops and executes strategic marketing plans in collaboration with the City leadership team and/or Economic Developer
Monitors web and social media tools, trends and applications; develops performance metrics; tracks, compiles and analyzes website and social media usage data and other key metrics through data analysis tools
Coordinates with the Assistant to the City Manager and other City leaders to develop and implement protocols and key communications messages and marketing campaigns
Provides content and graphic design for digital and non-digital media including website, social media, flyers, brochures, newsletters, advertisements, promotional materials and other media to ensure a consistent City message and branding
Provides general public relations advice to City personnel, assists with media relations programs; posts, monitors and supports city social media content
Attends, photographs and provides City information at events that are in conjunction with City brand partnerships and participates in special projects
Provides photographs for publication and community relations purposes; prepares story ideas and background information for special events and other City business; takes and edits photographs for the City's website, newsletter and social media, as well as distribution to other media as needed
Develops and maintains good working relations with members of the media; responds to media inquiries in a timely manner; manages media inquiries and interview requests when needed
Researches and writes press releases, Q&A content, articles and other content for publication; proactively promotes City accomplishments and activities
Serves as alternate for Press interview and official comments
Performs other duties as assigned in a positive manner which supports the vision and strategic objectives of the Division/Department and the entire organization of the City of Owasso
Minimum Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education and/or experience and training equivalent to at least five (5) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, such as Media/Public relations, Journalism, Marketing, and/or Mass Communications
Graphic Design skills that demonstrate ability to produce high-quality digital and non-digital content for website, social media, flyers, brochures, billboards, promotional materials, reports and other media
Management and use of website content management systems including Word Press or similar platform
Proficient knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar programs
Use and management of new and existing social media platforms
Ability to write, edit and design engaging social media posts, articles, marketing materials, and other publications covering a wide range of subject matter
Expertise in photography and video production, using still and video cameras and editing software such as Adobe Premier Pro or Photoshop
Superior skills in oral and written communication, that require excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation and proofreading skills, and ability to relay information in user-friendly terms
Ability to organize and plan work in a fast-paced environment with multiple, concurrent projects, various departments and deadlines, working effectively and efficiently without direct supervision
Ability to embrace a management philosophy that places value on character, quality, customer service and empowerment
Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with City employees, vendors, and the public
Demonstrated the character traits of Flexibility, Adaptability, Trustworthiness, Attentiveness, Dependability, Thoroughness, among others, in previous employment
Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license with good driving record
Must be able to provide samples of previous campaign and marketing material
Preferred Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the requirements of the position
Two plus years of hands-on experience in all areas related to the requirements of the position
Working Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work will be performed in an indoor office setting, working independently and/or as part of a team.
Must be able to work outdoor activities which may be conducted in inclement weather as the City determines is necessary to accommodate special City events and activities.
Tasks may typically require some combination of sitting or standing for extended periods of time, walking, reaching, repetitive motion, handling, feeling, hearing, and mental and visual acuity.
Incumbent must maintain the following physical abilities
- See well enough to operate equipment, read directions, inspect work performed, and to view a computer screen and fine print, sometimes for sustained periods of time
- Hear well enough to converse on the phone or in person
- Use hands and fingers for operating required equipment, for answering the phone, using computer keyboard, and writing and filing
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment as required to perform essential functions of job
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
