Long-Term Substitute- Upper School English Teacher

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Hawai'i Preparatory Academy seeks a long-term substitute Upper School English Teacher for a term beginning in mid-November and concluding in early January 2025. This role involves engaging high school students with a curriculum emphasizing critical thinking, literary analysis, and effective communication. The ideal candidate will bring creativity and a passion for English literature and composition, supporting students in developing a strong foundation in reading, writing, and analytical skills.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably in English or a related field
  • Degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Experience with high school students, accommodating various learning styles and assessment methods
  • Strong content knowledge in English literature and recent developments in English pedagogy
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues across grade levels and within the department
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to engaging with the school community, including students, parents, and colleagues
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dedication to fostering student confidence and curiosity. Specifically: two sections of English 10, three sessions of English 12
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Advisory role, grade-level curriculum planning, and student activities as needed
  • Must have or be able to obtain a CDL license for student transportation purposes
