Laboratory Specimen Receiving Tech

Daily work schedule: Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM shift, 40 hours per week.
Job Title:
Specimen Receiving Tech I
Job Responsibilities:
1. Sign off on all received specimens; ensure logs match specimens received.
2. Immediately address issue if specimen count does not match log brought in by the courier to supervisor or SR lead.
3. Sort specimens by insurance upon arrival.
4. Review, interpret, edit and/or verify patient demographics on requisitions.
5. Perform data entry into Vital Axis, including assigning specific computer-generated identification numbers to each sample.
6. Maintain required documentation, including proper specimen handling, labeling, and preparation of worksheets.
7. Maintain specimen identification and integrity throughout all processes.
8. Enter and review all appropriate requisition data in an accurate and efficient manner.
9. Enter remaining requisition data and grossing descriptions once returned by the grossers.
10. Scan and file requisitions completely to provide documentation retrieval
11. Stay up to date on all new procedures.
12. Consistently key a minimum of 200 requisitions per shift.
13.Communicates regularly and effectively with supervisor.
14. Maintain a neat and orderly mannered workstation.
15. Dispose and label biohazard waste appropriately.
16. Fill out daily QC log.
17. Must wear appropriate PPE.
18. Maintain security and confidentiality of all flies and machinery according to HIPAA guidelines.
19. Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
Must be detail oriented
Ability to type 50-55 words per minute
Ability to lift at least 30 lbs
Medical Terminology or Data Entry experience preferred
Education:
High School diploma or GED
Work Experience:
1. Must have at least 1 year of data entry experience
2. Must be able to manage multiple tasks at once
3. Must have excellent attention to detail, with strong verbal and written communication skills
Work environment: Clinical laboratory setting; exposure to chemical hazards, toxic substances, and sharp instruments.
