The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs the following:
Routine and specialized laboratory tests and other procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
- Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems.
- Evaluates and reports patient results using considerable independent judgment within the scope of established testing methods.
- Performs quality control procedures and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.
- Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures and instrumentation.
- May assume responsibility for one or more laboratory projects or functions such as performance improvement, safety, quality control, regulatory, administrative, staff development, and computer systems.
- Trains new employees and/or students in the theoretical and operational aspects of procedures and serves as a resource for less experienced staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
